Pre-cut vs. Pre-assembled Kits

i) Pre-cut Format

All framing and siding components are pre-cut to fit together perfectly, the rest is up to you!

The pre-cut format is ideal for the consummate do-it-yourselfer. We've designed the product, purchased and cut all the materials, built the doors and windows, and now we're handing it over to you.

Pre-cut buildings will likely require about 50% more assembly time than pre-assembled structures, but they are also less expensive and may offer greater satisfaction once the job is done.

We apologize if the style that you are interested in is not available in a pre-cut kit format.

ii) Pre-assembled Format

Where possible, all floors, walls, and trusses are pre-assembled for quick and easy assembly.

If you have limited time or simply want to enjoy your Summerwood design as soon as possible, consider purchasing one of our pre-assembled kits. This format is designed for quick, convenient assembly, with many of the components pre-assembled and ready for you to put together on site.

Depending on the size and complexity of your design, our pre-assembled kits can generally be assembled by two minimally skilled people in just a few days.

As products increase in size (cabins, garages) and complexity (dormers, 5 sided roofs, custom options) the time required will increase. Depending on the complexity some basic carpentry knowledge can also be helpful.

Choosing a Summerwood pre-assembled format will definitely reduce the assembly time for your building and make the installation go more smoothly.

How much of the kit is pre-assembled?

  • We pre-assemble as much as possible while keeping the wall sections light enough to unload from a truck

  • The height of the delivery vehicle also impacts what comes pre-assembled. If the wall’s height is too high, it may be necessary to break it down into smaller wall sections.

  • Some styles of roof are pre-assembled, other are not. Please see the appropriate video below for clarification.

  • All doors, windows, and other accessories are pre-assembled.

Level of Pre-Assembly

We have created a number of videos that depict how much of your design is pre-assembled depending on the building’s characteristics.

If you are unsure which video applies, contact a team member for assistance or give as a call at 1 (866) 519 - 4634 and we'll be glad to help.

Wall Height or Width < 80”

If the wall height or width is under 80”, it generally comes in one large section.

Note that there are exceptions where the weight of the wall may make it necessary to break it down into smaller pieces.

Wall Height or Width > 80”

If the wall height or width is over 80”, it generally comes in multiple wall frame sections.

Note that there are exceptions where the weight of the wall may make it necessary to break it down into smaller pieces.

Pre-cut vs. Pre-assembled Gazebos

i) Pre-cut Gazebo Format

All floor, wall, and roof materials are pre-cut to fit together perfectly, the rest is up to you!

The building components of our pre-cut gazebos are precision cut for quick assembly on site. Shingles are not included with the pre-cut kits, however for your convenience, cedar shingle bundles with cut ridge caps may be added to your order at the time of purchase.

The pre-cut format is ideal for the accomplished do-it-yourselfer. All components are precision cut to fit together perfectly.

We apologize if the gazebo kit you're interested in does not come in a pre-cut format.

ii) Pre-assembled Gazebo Format

The floor, wall, and roof panels on gazebos are pre-assembled for quick and easy assembly. Even the roof panels are pre-shingled saving you a bundle of time (applies to gazebo 16 ft. and smaller).

One of the great features of our pre-assembled gazebo kits is that the floor sections, wall sections and roof panels are fully assembled. All that's left for you to do is put them together.

We even apply the cedar shingles to the roof sections for you in our plant before shipping. As you can imagine, it's much easier to assemble a pre-assembled gazebo than it is a pre-cut gazebo. Simply fit your sections together and slide the roof panels into place.

Note that due to weight considerations, it is not possible to pre-shingle roof panels for gazebos larger than 16 feet in diameter. On these structures, the roof must be shingled on site.
