freight & delivery

Whether you live in the Unites States, Canada, or beyond, we make it easy to bring Summerwood into your backyard.

Once you place your order, we will go to great lengths to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of your new Summerwood building. Freight is a very important step in the process and we will make sure that your shipment receives proper care and attention from the moment it leaves our plant to the time it arrives at your door.

Freight Carrier

Your delivery will be handled by one of our carefully chosen freight partners. Shipments will generally be delivered between 9am and 5pm, Mon - Fri, and we do require that someone is on hand to receive it (see details below). A Summerwood team member will be in touch with you a few days prior to the shipping date to co-ordinate the delivery and review the delivery details with you.

Unloading your Summerwood Building

Watch this video to ensure that your Summerwood delivery goes smoothly.

Our kits are packaged in such a way that they may be unloaded piece by piece (pre-cut kit) or section by section (preassembled kit).

Depending on the size, style, number of options, and format (ie pre-cut or pre-assembled) of your building, the weight and dimensions of your shipment will vary.

Weight of Pieces/Sections

  • Pre-cut kit – the heaviest piece in our precut kit is generally a 4x8 sheet of plywood which weights approximately 30 pounds.

  • Pre-assembled kit – the heaviest piece in a preassembled kit is a wall section, which can weigh up to 250 pounds (even more if it’s one of our cabins or garages). This is manageable by two people of average strength. If you are at all concerned, it never hurts to have a third person close by to assist with the walls.

Local Cartage Delivery

If your location is not accessible to an 18-wheel truck and trailer (i.e. cul-de-sac, low hanging trees or wires, narrow or rural road) it may be wise to choose the “local cartage delivery” option as part of your order. This means that your shipment will be transferred at an off-site location from a full size “highway” truck to a smaller “straight” truck similar to the one pictured below. Don't worry, your sales person will make sure that it is properly explained and coordinated at the time of order.

  • 18-wheel “highway” truck

  • straight truck

Estimated Freight Charge

An estimated freight charge is provided when you enter a zip code on any of our quote pages. These rates are generally accurate, however, if the location is particularly remote or difficult to access the rate may vary. Your sales person will confirm this for you at the time of order.

Remote or Difficult Locations

For us this is not a problem, it's an opportunity. Over the years we have shipped our cabins and bunkies to some very remote locations (think ferries & barges). We will do our very best to find a way to get the building to its final destination.
