Depending on the usage, a good rule of thumb to follow is to accommodate a few chairs and a patio table inside the structure. Our smallest gazebo (8’) will comfortably accommodate 2 adults. If you need more space, increase the size of your gazebo by 2’ to give extra room for 2 more adults. (i.e. 10’ gazebo holds 4 adults).
Though the San Cristobal studio building requires some carpentry skills, it’s a great DIY construction project. Our gazebo kits include easy-to-follow instructions, diagrams, and assembly videos that will help you through the process. Our measurements (i.e. Nominal & Actual Building Size) are taken from the outside face of the upright columns. In the figure above it is represented in measurement “A”, it is portrayed in plan view in the “Floor Framing” section further down on this page.
All our San Cristobal backyard studio designs feature built-up columns comprised of upright posts sandwiched by wall sides on either side. The San Cristobal adds another element with the wall jamb that allows windows to be secured in the wall cavities. Below the windows are recessed cedar panels that form the solid knee wall, and above the window is a cascading system of pickets backed with glazing creating a transom around the top perimeter of the building’s walls.

The San Cristobal roof increases in complexity as the size increases, below is the roof framing for the 20’ San Cristobal without the cupola. For smaller sizes, the size and number of components incorporated in the roof structure are reduced.
Summerwood’s gazebo floors are built in 8 sections that are fastened together to form the octagonal footprint. The dimension “A” on the figure below references back to the San Cristobal Backyard Studio Dimensions Chart above.
The construction of the cupola is a scaled down version of the construction of the San Cristobal. The wall panels feature pickets and glazing like the top spandrel of the main structures walls, and the roof assembly consists of hip rafters supporting roof boards and cedar shingles. The cupola is finished at the point with a top cone, and optional decorative ball.
The San Cristobal studio gazebo is well suited to a traditional patio stone foundation. A concrete pad foundation or pier footings are also possibilities.
