The following section contains helpful information about our pre-fabricated building kit formats. For assembly details and photos, be sure to check out the construction details section of our site.

Great pains have gone into making the assembly of our pre fabricated building kits a fun and satisfying experience. Over 15 years we've tweaked and honed our products, our processes, our packaging, and our instructions to bring you the best product possible. It's very satisfying when people send us pictures with great stories about their assembly experience.

Most Summerwood kits are available in two convenient formats: Pre-cut and Pre-assembled (more on this later). Each of the kits contains the essential parts you will need to build your structure, with all the components securely packaged and shipped directly to your work site. When the package arrives, simply unload the truck, move the components to your assembly site, and get building!

What you will find in each Summerwood kit:

  • If purchased, pre-assembled windows, doors, flower boxes and shutters for added convenience.
  • All of your building components.
  • Fasteners and hardware such as screws, nails, hinges, and door handles.

What to know about your kit:

  • Due to style preferences and shipping considerations, shingles are not included in our kits*. If you choose the look and durability of cedar shingles they may be purchased from us at the time of sale. Asphalt shingles and other roofing materials may be easily purchased at your local building supply store.
  • If you purchase cedar shingles, please note that nails are not included. For this application, we recommend purchasing staples and renting a staple gun instead.
  • Exact roof panel sizes are highly dependent on the geometry of the floor, the accuracy of the wall joints, and the angles between the walls. As such, roof pieces are not pre-cut in either kit format. Instructions are included to cut the roof panels on site.

* Please note that, with the exception of our Coventry and Montpellier models, cedar shingles are included and pre-applied to the roof boards on pre-assembled gazebos.

Pre-cut vs. Pre-assembled

To see how it all goes together, have a quick look at our animated kit assembly video.

A) Pre-cut Format

The pre-cut format is ideal for the consummate do-it-yourselfer. We've designed the product, purchased and cut all the materials, built the doors and windows, and now we're handing it over to you.

Pre-cut structures will likely require about 50% more assembly time, but they are also less expensive and may offer greater satisfaction once the job is done.

We apologize if the style that you are interested is not available in a pre-cut kit format.

Each pre-cut building kit contains:

  • Detailed, easy to follow instructions that you download before receiving your building
  • A generic assembly video (that you view online, please click here)
  • Pre-cut framing and siding
  • All required fasteners and hardware such as screws, nails, hinges and handles
  • A complete floor, if purchased
  • Pre-assembled doors, windows, flower boxes and shutters for added convenience, if purchased

B) Pre-assembled Format

If you have limited time or simply want to enjoy your Summerwood structure as soon as possible, consider purchasing one of our pre-assembled kits. This format is designed for quick, convenient assembly, with most of the components pre-assembled and ready for you to put together on site.

Depending on the size and complexity of your outdoor structure, our pre-assembled kits can generally be assembled by two minimally skilled people in one or two days.*

We apologize if the style that you are interested is not available in a pre-assembled kit format.

*Note: As products increase in size (cabins, garages) and complexity (dormers, 5 sided roofs, custom options) the time required may vary. Some basic carpentry knowledge can also be helpful.

Each pre-assembled building kit contains:

  • Detailed, easy to follow instructions that you download before receiving your building
  • A generic assembly video (that you view online, please click here)
  • Pre-assembled floors, walls and trusses
  • If purchased, pre-assembled doors, windows, flower boxes and shutters for added convenience
  • All required fasteners and hardware such as screws and nails, hinges and handles

What to know about pre-assembled format kits:

  • Some assembly is still required. Pre-assembled means major structural components such as walls, trusses and the floor are built and framed for you, but it is still necessary to assemble the entire structure. Sheathing, trimming, and shingling are also required.
  • Some of our roof styles deploy trusses; others deploy rafters; only the trusses are pre assembled. Rafters are pre cut to fit together during assembly. (view our 3D virtual tours to see roof style detail.)
  • Windows and doors are framed, allowing you to conveniently pop these components into place.
  • Pre-assembled walls can be quite heavy. Depending on the size, you will need two or three people to assist with unloading.

Gazebos: Pre-cut vs. Pre-assembled

A) Pre-cut Gazebo Format

The building components of our pre-cut gazebos are precision cut for assembly on site. Shingles are not included with the pre-cut kits, however for your convenience, cedar shingle bundles with cut ridge caps may be added to your order at the time of purchase.

This kit format is ideal for the accomplished do-it-yourselfer. We have cut all of the cedar that is required for your gazebo and have passed it on for you to assemble.

We apologize if the gazebo kit you're interested in does not come in a pre-cut format.

Each pre-cut gazebo kit contains:

  • Detailed, easy to follow instructions that you download before receiving your gazebo
  • A generic assembly video viewed online (view here)
  • Pre-cut floor frame, boards, wall section, and roof panels
  • All required hardware such as brass screws
  • A complete floor,
  • Pre-assembled doors, windows (for the garden houses) and screen kit (if purchased)

B) Pre-assembled Gazebo Format

One of the great features of our pre-assembled gazebo kits is that the floor sections, wall sections and roof panels are fully assembled. All that's left for you to do is the actual assembly. We even apply the cedar shingles to the roof sections for you in our plant before shipping.

As you can imagine, it's much easier to assemble a pre-assembled gazebo than it is a pre-cut gazebo. Simply slide fit your sections together and slide the roof panels into place.

Please note that due to weight, it is not possible to pre-shingle roof panels for gazebos larger than 16 feet. On these structures, the roof must be shingled on site.

Each pre-assembled gazebo kit contains:

  • Detailed, easy to follow instructions that you download before receiving your gazebo
  • A generic assembly video (to view online, please click here)
  • Pre-assembled floor sections, wall sections and roof panels on gazebos that are 16ft. or smaller
  • Pre-assembled doors, windows and optional screen kit
  • All required hardware such as brass screws for gazebo styles
