Elevation Dimensions

Please click here to learn more about the many windows, doors and other options available for this design.

Dune Height Chart
Width (Dimension A) Overall Height (C) - standard overhang (2'-6")
8ft.8' 7 3/4"
9ft.8' 8 3/4"
10ft.8' 9 3/4"
11ft.8' 10 3/4"
12ft.8' 11 3/4"
13ft.9' 3/4"
14ft.9' 1 3/4"
15ft.9' 2 3/4"
16ft.9' 3 3/4"

Floor

The total heights listed above, included the floor. If you don't want your building to include the floor, simply subtract the following dimension:

Building Depth (Dimension A)
< 10 ft. 10ft.
5 5/8" 7 5/8"

Extra Height

Extra height may be added to your structure at the time of sale. If you add extra height to your building, simply increase the overall height of the building by the added amount.

Plan Dimensions

Please note:

  • - One row of 1 x 6 cedar skirting is provided with each structure (providing the floor is not omitted)
  • - To calculate the square footage, multiply
    A x B e.g. a structure with dimensions 6 ft. x 8 ft. (where A=6 and B=8), equal 48 sq. ft.

Dune floor

Please see the Dune height chart for dimensions and layout.

Notes on Dimensions

  • Our measurements (i.e. 8ft. x 12ft.) are taken from the outside of the floor plates and studs, therefore, they don't include the siding
  • For true interior measurements, subtract the floor plates/studs (i.e. 2 x 5 1/2" = 11"). Note: 2 x 6 is actually 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" due to the properties of "finished lumber"
  • For true exterior dimensions, also add the siding and corner pieces. The Canexel siding is 3/8" thick, the cedar siding is 3/4" thick and the log siding is 1 1/2" thick. The corner trim is 3/4" thick (see figure below).

(If the building width is less than 12'-0" - 2"x4" wall material will be provided)

If you have any other questions pertaining to the size of the building, please do not hesitate to ask us, we're here to help.

Everything you need to know about Summerwood's newest contemporary design.

General

The Dune is a modern design with a California poolside appeal. Its gradual sloping roof and wing-like overhang easily make it one of Summerwood's most stylish designs.

Siding

The Dune has multiple siding options. Smooth or rough Western Red Cedar or maintenance-free Canexel (in 18 colours), as well as Clear Cedar (shown above), are all options on this building. Also available is a "trim-less" mitered corner siding, available only in kit formats in clear cedar and is not recommended for the amateur DIYer! Trim on the Dune is all 1" x 6" cedar.

Roof

The roof on the Dune is a 0.5/12 or 1/12 pitch, making it too flat for regular asphaly or cedar shingles. The most practical roofing solution is EPDM rubberized roofing material; which is ideal for a gradual sloping roof. Also available is an eco-friendly grass roof.

Roof Overhang

Recommended overhang on the left and right sides of the building is 2'-6" and 6" on the front and back. This too can be adjusted upon request; our staff may suggest decreasing the overhang on smaller buildings to maintain a proportional look.

Wall Height

Standard wall height of the Dune is 8' on the "tall" side; the "short" side is dependant on the depth of the building and the slope of the roof. This height can be increased in increments of 6 inches.

Door

The picture-frame concealed door is specific to the Dune and is standard on all Dune models. The door of the Dune is designed to be relatively concealed, without border trim or cladding. It is 76.5"H by 60"W and can be placed on either the front or back walls. This door features brass mercury tubular entry knobs and opens outward only.

Windows

Specific to the Dun is a single-lite transom window, ideal for the upper wall areas on either the back or side walls of the building. As a standard this window is 60"W by 8"H, but can be increased or decreased in width and height as is preferred.

Other Options

Interior shelving and benching, as well as venting are also available on the Dune.

Materials

Every structure, regardless of style or size, is designed and manufactured to exacting standards. We use the finest materials available and provide options where possible. If there is a particular item you would like and it's not part of our offering, we are happy to try and source it for you. For information on the various materials we use, please see the Materials section under Information.

Engineering And Technical Details

Our buildings are designed to withstand the rigors of life in North America. It is rare that our specs will not meet code. Whether you live in the Northeast, the Southwest or anywhere in between, snow and wind calculations have all been considered in the design of your product (so you won't have to worry about ever leaving Kansas). Our engineering is solid.

For example, in climates like Alaska, Colorado and Maine where snow loads are important and the PSF reaches 70, our construction not only stands up to these codes but exceeds them. See what the snow & wind loads are in your area.

In areas where wind is a factor like Florida, Louisiana and Rhode Island, the wind load PSF reaches 140. Again, our construction is above standard.

Should you have any specific requirements for roof construction to satisfy specific and unique bylaws, please let us know and we'll build your roof to comply. A small surcharge may apply.

Permits & Drawings

If you require a permit drawing for your Dune building, we can accommodate your requests. See what a set of generic permit drawings look like. For more details, please see permits under our Information section.
